Splendor in the Beargrass

It has been an amazing year for beargrass. On my morning runs in the mountains I am treated to endless seas of Beargrass rising from the forest floor. Beargrass can be found in large numbers in the many parks and meadows of the Whitefish Range. These amazing tufts of gentle white sway in the morning breeze and add a touch of early floral beauty to the mountain sides.

Beargrass was named by Lewis and Clark who noticed that Grizzlies like to spend time rolling around among the flowers. They assumed that the bears ate the grass... but they do not.
